LEATHER x LETTER exhibition - The meeting of the bag designer and the graphic artist
Joint exhibition of Enikő Horn /ENIHORN/ and Anikó Székffy /ATIPO/

The exhibition will be opened by Daniella Koós.
It can be viewed until April 6, 2023, from Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 18:00.

Enikő Horn, designer and owner of the 10 years old ENIHORN brand. She became maker of leather goods in 1992, and much later she graduated in 2009 in BA in fashion design at the faculty of Mod'Art International, a French design and education college in Budapest. In 2013, after graduated in a bag design course in Milan, she launched her first collection of clothes and bags, where clothes were the accessories for the bags. She opened her showroom of the ENIHORN brand in 2014 in Budapest, VI., Izabella Street 45.
In FISE Gallery's 'BŐR x BETŰ - LEATHER x LETTER’ exhibition, Enikő Horn's close relationship with environmental protection and recycling for decades, as well as the printing techniques often used until the beginning of the 2000s, the old Gutenberg’s printing press and the smell of printing ink gave Enikő Horn the inspiration, which is now brought Anikó Székffy and her together at the same exhibition.
Years ago, the designer was given some leather with many defects on the surface, which she could not use it and kept until today. Now, with printing ink and the possibility of poster printing, she re-enchanted the skins, for beautiful, wearable creations. She also experimented with neoprene material left over from tailoring waste. The mood of the green, eosin-effect skins presented at the exhibition alongside the 'pieces with letters' reflects the fact that in today's world we could love again the fragmented, old-looking, worn-out objects dressed in a new design.

Anikó Székffy was born into a family of pringers, illustrators, typographers and graphic designers (literally, all relatives are connected to the profession in some way). As a child, she played with letraset, tracing paper and mechanical pencils, and regularly (to this day) sharpening pencils is one of her favourite activities.
She graduated from Printing-technology School, then studied typography from István Kiss at the College of Applied Arts. After graduation she started to work as an entrepreneur, and in 2010 she founded her own business: Atipo Design, where she has been working as an independent graphic designer ever since. For the last ten years, her clientele has consisted mostly of downtown restaurants, and she is working with them daily as graphic designer. She likes special but also traditional solutions. When she picks up a book or flyer, the first thing she does is to smell the paper :) Her passion is her profession and if you ask her what she does for a living, the answer will be: "I'm just putting letters together."

"Design is like a fish in water - the story of the Studio of Young Industrial Artists"
Book by Tibor Kránitz and Róbert Mascher

How did it start? How was it possible to organize 720 exhibitions and events? Who were the 1595 artists who started their careers at FIS?

Our book, which has just been published, seeks answers to such and similar questions, and documents the history and current situation of our independent organization for posterity. In the first chapters, our readers can learn about the formation of our professional community, and then we will present its operation and the place where we organize our exhibitions. We deal with our activities in separate sections, where we recall some prominent movements from the beginning to the present day. In the continuation, we will commemorate the first four decades of the association by publishing publications, curiosities, photo compilations, and finally we will publish databases to fill gaps, the list of all the members of FISE up to now and their statements.
At our book presentation exhibition opening on February 15th, you can get your hands on the 304-page work, with the help of which we hope we managed to make visible and capture how FISE helps designers to live like a fish in water!

The Erasmus+ program, implemented in cooperation with FISE, is coming to an end soon, and its aim is to support female entrepreneurship within the creative industries, with particular attention to groups at risk of exclusion.
The goal of the EASEWE (ENTRE PRENEURIAL EDUCAT ION FOR CREATIVE SELF – EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN) project is to contribute to the restart of the creative and cultural sector, which has been particularly affected by Covid, by encouraging the self-employment of women fleeing wars and increasing their employability. We are working on the creation of a training and adult education toolbox that deepens digital competences, stimulates entrepreneurship, and is aimed at acquiring skills for self-employment and business establishment.

The five organizations participating in the project are Alfombra Roja (Sweden), Fundeun (Spain), GrantXpert (Cyprus), Net in Action (Italy) and FISE (Hungary).

At the beginning of their careers, many young artists may feel that they are left alone in the world of industrial art and design, that it is more difficult for them to access information, and that their works find it difficult to reach the public. They may also fear that their professional relationships will fade or be interrupted. The Studio of Young Industrial Artists was established 40 years ago to solve these problems, and it now operates as a non-profit association and a recognized professional organization. In a circular, it informs its 350 members about the possibilities and tenders discovered. With their website, publications and exhibitions - such as the current one, B32 FISE40 - they try to provide them with more publicity. The festive exhibition of FISE members in the two exhibition spaces of B32 is not only a presentation of beautiful objects, but a self-determination matured in a community, the answer of young people to the tasks facing contemporary Hungarian applied art. It simultaneously presents the individual achievements, the artistic level of the age group and the professional rank of the Association. The secret of FISE's success is that among its members there are many creators who belong to the forefront of contemporary design and whose works are outstanding at the international level, who not only increase the prestige of FISE with their presence in the life of the association, but also actively participate in its operation. You can find out more about their international exhibitions and their downtown Gallery with the help of the website available at www.fise.hu.
We therefore recommend to your attention the FISE40 exhibition of young artists, great works displaying all areas of applied art (interior architecture, photography, graphics, industrial form, clothing, goldsmiths, silicate, textiles)!

The FISE Gallery cordially invites our METU Alumnae

Opening: Tuesday, July 19, 2022, 6 p.m.

The exhibition will be opened by Kitti Mayer

It can be viewed until August 5, 2022, from Monday to Friday from 13:00 to 18:00.

"The whole is more than the sum of its parts" – Aristotle

The exhibition explores the connections between students working on the common theme of Anett Papp and Erika Rejka, as well as selected and later works. The study of the organizing principles of structural design is didactic content related to the subject-making profession, but more than that. The steps of organising into a system are influenced by a myriad of factors.

Contact itself is the principle of give and take. Physical, interpersonal and intergroup systems are built up between part and whole. The structure is made up of these parts. The focal point of the objects in the exhibition are the systems of parts in physical relation to each other. These systems evolve as diverse organisms as the artists unfold in their careers. In the contemporary teaching-learning process, the hierarchy of instructor and student is neglected, and the system becomes creative in a juxtaposing, yet interdependent relationship. We influence each other from the moment of contact.

Memorial Bath

What can the collective message of a personal memory be like? What is the personal message of a collective memory? Are memories present as hidden, concealing patterns? How much do we show ourselves, how much do we reveal of ourselves if we share our memories? What does a thin layer of porcelain reveal and what does it show? There are recurring elements in our memories that reemerge from time to time and then fade under the influence of an experience, sight, or sound. In the same way as different light conditions make it appear, hidden images on displayed porcelain objects appear to be different in intensity.

The works of Zsuzsa Boldizsár (ceramic designer) deal with the issue of repetition and remembrance. Her works are characterized by the playful exploration of hidden meanings and messages in objects and the examination of our relationship to them. With her hidden series, she makes earthenware where the character of the object changes significantly depending on light conditions. The object thus slows down the reception process itself, motivating contemplation and observation. The starting point of her porcelain postcards is a series of pictures taken by photographer Lili Sziráki, which she reflects on in parallel with her own family photographs.

With the series displayed by Lili Sziráki (photographer), in connection with the above issues, she is looking for the answer to what those places, locations, pieces at home, feelings from home are that may be represented in non-traditional postcards. There is a possible answer in her reading, in her selection of images for all of us. In the same way, yet differently.
